To counterbalance this action and restrict its effects, it is strenuously recommended that a two-stage PurityPlus® regulator be applied. The manufacturer presets the first-stage pressure reduction, typically between 300-500 psig, while the user is allowed to  monitor the ultimate outlet pressure in the second stage. Setting an intermediate pressure puts dampers on the crawl effect by the second stage so  it’s virtually a done deal until the cylinder pressure goes below 150-200 psig.

Its worth comparing this, now, to an industrial gas single-stage regulator. As a result of the single-stage design, the single diaphragm sees a continuous lessening of supply pressure along with a gradual but uninterrupted rise in outlet pressure that might fluctuate as much as 10-15 psig.
